Firstly, I would bring before our mothers a phase of life and thought which have their due significance when they are recognized as a possible experience in the lives of our daughters. Secondly, because I would prefer that this little volume should reach all thoughtful girls, as a gift direct from the mother. That the present story is merely a reproduction of facts few will question. Whether these facts should be brought before our daughters may and will call forth a question. For my own part, venturing to believe it to be a far wiser plan to enlighten our girls as life advances, than to leave them, through ignorance, at the mercy of the unprincipled; also that it is safer to give knowledge of a certain kind than to allow it to be gathered from books of a doubtful tone, or received from minds of questionable purity, I feel led, after |
