SCRIPTURE MANUAL Afflictions. 1. Are afflictions common to mankind? Job 5. 7. Man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward. Job 7. 17. What is man, that thou shouldest magnify him? and that thou shouldest set thine heart upon him? And that thou shouldest visit him every morning, and try him every moment? Job 14. 1. Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble. 2. Who sends afflictions? Dt. 32. 39. I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand. 1 S. 2. 6. The Lord killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up. The Lord maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up. Job 5. 6. Affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground. 17. Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty: For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole. Ps. 39. 9. I was dumb, I opened not my mouth, because thou didst it. Remove thy stroke away from me; I am consumed by the blow of thy hand. Ps. 66. 11. Thou broughtest us into the net; thou laidest affliction upon our loins. Ps. 102. 10. Thou hast lifted me up, and cast me down. 23. He weakened my strength in the way; he shortened my days. |
