NOTES IN SEASON.

J. L. SIBOLE & Co. have almost ready a second edition of their admirable holiday giftbook, "The Gathering of the Lilies."

A. J. BICKNELL & Co. announce five new volumes on architecture made up from their late extensive work originally published under the title of "Wooden and Brick Buildings with Details." They will be continued under this title in two volumes of eighty plates, at $9 each.

BRYAN, BRAND & Co. have now ready Bishop,

Marvin's "To the East by way of the West, referred to by us in a former number. On account of the death of the author, publication of the book was delayed to allow the insertion of a sketch of his life, prepared by Bishop McTyerie. Advance orders have already taken up the first edition.

C. C. PERKINS' elaborate work on Raphael and Michelangelo" will appear next week at Osgood's. It embraces a sufficient account of the lives of these renowned artists, and dwells with special emphasis upon their career and distinguishing traits and immortal triumphs in their respective fields of art. The book will contain many illustrations, not a few of them heliotypes.

D. APPLETON & Co. have just ready that charming novel, "Cherry Ripe," which was one of the most popular serials in Appletons' Fournal this year, and The Sarcasm of Destiny," by

"M. E. W. S." whose contributions to the magazines are widely and favorably known. Her novel is in the main a story of American life, but there are a few brilliant glimpses of scenes in Paris, London, and Baden-Baden.

A. WILLIAMS & Co., Boston, have just published an illustrated work entitled "Early New England Interiors.' Those who have studied the architecture of the early colonial period or have family associations with that time, will no doubt find it an interesting volume. The artistauthor, Mr. Arthur Little, has gathered his materials from the old homes of Salem, Marblehead, Kittery, and other towns prominent in the early history of New England.

MESSRS. GINN & HEATH have just ready their "Classical English Reader," comprising two hundred choice selections from a hundred standard authors. Brief biographical sketches of the authors are given, and an essay is prefixed on the wealth of English literature and the principles adopted in making the selections. This essay is a pithy piece of composition, and the book is one of unusual excellence for school use or miscellaneous reading. J. R. OSGOOD & Co. publish this week "Gibbon," in the choice Autobiography Series, with a delightful introductory essay of nearly forty pages by Mr. Howells. The "Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám," the astronomer-poet of Persia, a red-line, red-edged book, printed on one side of the leaf, and containing an account of Omar Khayyam and a translation of his poems, which frequently have a very Western and nineteenth-century air; and the holiday edition of Miss Howard's witching story, One Summer," with Hoppin's entertaining illustra

tions.

LEE & SHEPARD have just ready "Something Better," which makes the fourth volume in their popular Sparkling Series." This book, like its predecessors, That Husband of Mine" and That Wife of Mine," describes in vivid colors the real joys and sorrows of home. They have also a new edition of that very useful and entertaining book, "The Seven Little Sisters," who lived on the round ball called the world.

Their other new books include "Good Old Times," by Elijah Kellogg, one of the most popular writers for boys; and "The Original Mother Goose," a series of fifty full-page silhouettes by J. F. Goodridge, very amusing and sure to attract holiday attention,

especially as its price, in stiff paper covers, is

but 50 cents; in cloth, I.
