can best spare from your work, and can be alone. If you have not time in the day, use them at night after your usual examination of conscience.

As you ask yourself each question, think very seriously over it, and confess at once any sin of which your conscience tells you that you have been guilty. Every day when you have finished this self-examination, say

LORD, have mercy upon me, for I have sinned against Thee. O give me true sorrow for my past sins, and grace to serve Thee henceforth more faithfully, for JESUS CHRIST's sake. AMEN.

By Thine Agony and BLOODY SWEAT; by Thy Cross and Passion: GOOD JESUS, pardon and save me!

If you have time, or are not very tired, say the following, at least on the Saturday Evening.

I do not presume to come to Thy Holy Table, O Merciful LORD, trusting in my own righteousness, but in Thy many and

great mercies; I am not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under Thy Table. But Thou art the same LORD, Whose property is always to have mercy; grant me therefore, Gracious LORD, so to eat the FLESH of Thy Dear SON, JESUS CHRIST, and to drink His BLOOD, that my sinful body may be made clean by His BODY, and my soul washed through His Most Precious BLOOD, and that I may evermore dwell in Him, and He in me. AMEN.

Examination of conscience for the week before HOLY COMMUNION, upon the Ten Commandments, and the Seven deadly sins of: 1. Pride.-2. Covetousness.-3. Lust.-4. Envy. 5. Gluttony.-6. Anger.-7. Sloth.

SUNDAY.

FIRST COMMANDMENT.

Thou shalt have none other Gods but Me.

Do I love anything or any person more than GOD? Have I followed my own wishes instead of GOD's Will?

SECOND COMMANDMENT.

Thou shalt not make to thyself any graven image, nor the likeness of anything that is in Heaven above, or in the earth beneath, or in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down to them, nor worship them: for I the LORD thy GOD am a jealous GOD, and visit the sins of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me, and shew mercy unto thousands in them that love Me, and keep My commandments.

Do I show my faith in GOD by trying to obey and please Him in all I do?

Have I read books, or kept company which would be likely to make me love GOD less, or to lead me away from Him?

Have I been to Church constantly? said my prayers regularly? read the Bible often and attentively?

Have I tried always to pray earnestly, and to keep my thoughts from wandering, in Church and in private ?

Have I got up too late to say my prayers? how often?

Have I said my prayers reverently, not in bed, but kneeling?

Have I followed my own wishes, instead of GOD's Will? or complained of what GOD ordered for me?

Have I feared to do what was right, lest I should be blamed, or laughed at by others?

MONDAY.

THIRD COMMANDMENT.

Thou shalt not take the Name of the LORD thy GOD in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh His Name in vain.

Have I used the Name of God lightly, in common talk?

Have I spoken lightly of GOD's Ministers? His Word? His House? or of His Holy Sacraments?

Have I sworn to what I did not know certainly to be true?

Have I cursed myself or others, or anything else? how often?

Have I spoken any bad or unholy words when angry, or in jest?

Do I try to remember and keep the solemn promises of my Baptism?

FOURTH COMMANDMENT.

Remember that thou keep holy the Sabbath day. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all that thou hast to do; but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy GOD. In it thou shalt do no manner of work, thou, and thy
