Candidates in possession of Certificate A of the Officers' Training Corps will receive 3 per cent. and those in possession of Certificates A. and B 6 per cent. of the maximum number of marks allotted.

8. INDIAN MEDICAL SERVICE.

No competitive examinations have been held since July, 1915. Applications marked "Medical Recruitment" on the top left-hand corner of the envelope should be addressed to the Secretary, Military Department, India Office, Whitehall, London, S. W 1.

9. COLONIAL MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS.

Appointments in the self-governing Dominions, e.g. Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Newfoundland, are under the control of their respective governments. Vacancies, however, occur fairly frequently in the following: (1) West African Medical Staff; (2) East Africa, and (3) Straits Settlements and Malay States. These appointments are in the gift of the Secretary of State for the Colonies.

Candidates must be between the ages of 23 and 35.

Preference will be given to those who have held Hospital Appointments as House Physicians and House Surgeons.

Testimonials of character and professional competence will be required.

Applications for appointments must be addressed to the Assistant Private Secretary (Appointments), Colonial Office, Downing Street, London, S.W. 1, by whom forms will be supplied which the candidate must fill up.

Further particulars may be obtained from the Secretary to the University or the Assistant Private Secretary (Appointments), mentioned above.

APPENDIX C.

APPOINTMENTS COMMITTEE.

The Committee desires to assist Students and Graduates seeking Government, Educational, Commercial, and other appointments. Students desiring advice as to the best course of study to be pursued with a view to certain callings are advised to consult the Committee. All communications should be addressed to The Convener, The Appointments Committee.

A Special Committee advises Students thinking of preparing for the Indian and Home Civil Service.

A Special Sub-Committee will deal with appointments for Women as Inspectors of Factories, Secretaries, etc.

Among the other appointments concerning which advice and assistance will be given by the Committee are:

1. Indian and Colonial Universities, Training Colleges, and Schools.

2. The Indian, Straits Settlements, Federated Malay States, Hong-Kong and other Police Forces. [The age for these Services is above 19 and under 22. They are specially suited for young men combining good physique with sufficient attainments.]

3. Assistants in the British Museum, and in the Natural History Department; also in the Royal Scottish Museum. [Age 20 to 25.]

4. Student Interpreterships for the Ottoman Dominions, Persia, Greece, and Morocco. [Age 18 to 24.]

5. Student Interpreterships in China, Japan, and Siam.

6. General Consular Service.

7. Inspectors of Factories.

8. Inspectors of Income Tax.

9. Colonial Appointments generally.

10. Indian Finance and Customs Appointments.

11. Agricultural and Forestry Appointments.

The Committee cannot undertake to find appointments for applicants. Its function is confined to advising and assisting. Applica

tion for such advice should not be left till the last moment.

COMMERCE APPOINTMENTS.

A Special Committee has been appointed with a view to obtaining commercial appointments for graduates. Applications should be sent to Mr. John McFarlane, Secretary of the Special Committee.

The

EUROPEAN MASTERS IN THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT OF THE STRAITS SETTLEMENTS AND FEDERATED MALAY STATES. The duties are to teach the usual English subjects and Mathematics (Geometry and Algebra) as required for Cambridge Senior Local Examinations; Masters may also be required if qualified to teach Chemistry, Physics, Commercial Subjects or Latin. salary starts at $350 or $400 per mensem (£490 and £560 per annum respectively at rate of exchange $1 = 2/4) and rises to $800 per mensem (£1120 per annum). Full-pay leave to an extent equivalent to one-sixth of the resident service is usually granted after four years' resident service. The appointments are probationery for 3 years, and thereafter there is prospect of a pensionable appointment. The qualifications required are education at a public school or good grammar school, a degree (preferably in Honours) of, or a good record at, a British University, and, desirably, some experience of teaching or training. Fuller information can be obtained from the Secretary of the University or from the Private Secretary (Appointments), Colonial Office, Downing Street, London, S.W. 1.

APPENDIX D.

1. THE PRINCIPAL PIRIE MEMORIAL FUND.

This Fund is intended for the assistance of students of limited means, who have fallen ill while attending the University Classes. Grants will be made in aid of nursing and sick-room necessaries and comforts, but not for medical attendance except in special cases. The Fund is managed by a Committee consisting of the Principal and the Deans of the Faculties.

Applications (which will be treated as private) should be sent to the Secretary of the University.

2. THE JOHN GRANT FUND.

Founded by letter of gift of date 8th February, 1927, by John Grant, M.A., St. Michael's, Dufftown, in memory of his mother who sent five of her sons to the University of Aberdeen and his mother-in-law who sent her son.

By the terms of the gift a sum of £1000 has been granted to the University of Aberdeen which shall form a permanent fund to be referred to as "The John Grant Fund," the annual revenue of which to be applied towards assisting students in the Faculty of Arts of limited means who may fall ill while they are matriculated students of the University.

The fund to be administered by the Professors of Mathematics and Logic and their respective successors in office at their sole discretion and the assistance to deserving students to be given privately and without publication of the names of the beneficiaries. Assistance may be given for such purposes as medical and nursing attendance, sick-room necessaries and comforts, and expenses incurred during convalescence.

The fund shall be kept as a permanent one and the capital shall never be diminished. Any revenue unspent in any year shall be retained as revenue, not added to capital, and shall be available for expenditure in future years.

Applications (which will be treated as private) should be sent to the Secretary of the University.

3. THE MURCHISON OF TARRADALE MEMORIAL TRUST.

By the Will of the late Miss Amy Frances Yule, Tarradale House and grounds, near Muir-of-Ord, Ross-shire, are devoted as "a place of rest and refreshment for poor scholars or such other students, preferentially, but not exclusively, those no longer young or for other causes unable to seek such refreshment unassisted".
