2. The standard of the Final Examination shall be not lower than that of the examinations in the subjects of an Honours Group for the Degree of Master of Arts with Honours.

3. No candidate shall be admitted to the Final Examination until he has passed (or obtained exemption from) the First Examination, nor until the end of the second session after the completion of the third Academical Year of study required for the previous Degree.

4. The names of the successful candidates for the Final Examination shall be grouped by the Examiners in two classes. In the first class shall be placed the candidates who, in the opinion of the Examiners, have obtained a rank equivalent to that of First or of Second Class Honours in the Degree of Master of Arts; and these candidates alone shall be qualified to proceed to the Higher Degrees in Arts and Science as prescribed in Section XVI. of this Ordinance. The names in each class shall be arranged in alphabetical order.

XIII. The Examiners shall be the Professors or Lecturers in the University who conduct qualifying courses in the subjects of the Curriculum, together with such additional Examiners as may be appointed by the University Court. The mode of conducting the examinations shall be regulated by the Senatus.

XIV. The fee for the Degree of Bachelor of Education shall be nine guineas or such other fee as may be fixed from time to time by the University Court, and the sum to be paid by a candidate on entry for each of the two examinations shall be four guineas for the first examination and five guineas for the second or such other proportion of the fee as may be fixed from time to time by the University Court. If a candidate who has failed to pass either of the Examinations is re-admitted to Examination, the University Court shall have power to charge a re-admission fee of two guineas or such other sum as may from time to time be fixed. XV. The Degree of Bachelor of Education shall in no case be conferred on persons who have not complied with the conditions hereinbefore set forth, and shall not be conferred honoris causa tantum.

XVI. Graduates in Arts or in Science of the University of Aberdeen, who have also obtained the Degree of Bachelor of Education on a rank entitling them to be placed in the first class of the Degree as prescribed in Section XII. 4 of this Ordinance, may offer themselves for the Degree of Doctor of Science, Doctor of Philosophy, or Doctor of Letters, after the expiry of five years from the date of their admission to the previous Degree, as if they

were qualified in the manner set forth in Sections I., IV., and VII. of Ordinance 62 (General 24)-Regulations for Higher Degrees in Arts and Science.

XVII. This Ordinance shall come into force at the beginning of the Academical Year next after the date of its approval by His Majesty in Council. [Approved 24th February, 1919.]

CERTIFICATES AND DIPLOMAS.

I. CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION.

A Special Certificate will be granted on completion of the first stage of the Ed. B. Degree.*

II. DIPLOMA IN HISTORY AND THEORY OF FINE ART.

The University Diploma in the History and Theory of Fine Art is conferred after examination on graduates who have attended the prescribed courses and complied with the following regulations:1. Candidates must be graduates either in Arts or Science of the University of Aberdeen.

2. Candidates must have attended the sets of Lectures at present forming the M.A. Course in Fine Art in the University of Aberdeen, and pass the Degree Examination therein, provided always that the curriculum for the Degree of Master of Arts or Bachelor of Science must be complete in itself exclusive of Fine Art, and in the event of a candidate having included Fine Art in his minimum curriculum for the Degree, that he shall attend a course in an extra subject qualifying for the Degree of Master of Arts or Bachelor of Science, and pass the Degree Examination in that subject

3. Candidates shall be required to write and submit a Thesis on some department of Fine Art, the thesis to be written under the guidance and supervision of the Lecturer concerned.

4. For the practical side of the training, the University shall accept a Certificate from the School of Art in Robert Gordon's Technical Colleges or from any other School of Art specially recognised by the University Court for this purpose. This certificate shall be a guarantee of twenty weeks' full time study in Drawing and either Architecture or Design or Sculpture or Painting and shall be recognised only as long as the University is satisfied that the standard reaches the requirements of a University Diploma.

FEES.

The fee is £2 2s. payable when the candidate submits his Thesis for the Diploma.

A candidate who is not a matriculated student at the date of submitting his Thesis will also require to pay an Admission Fee of £1 1s. in lieu of matriculation.

Note. Should a candidate require to attend additional classes at the University which are not included under the Inclusive Fee paid by him for the Degree of M.A. or B.Sc., he must pay the individual fees applicable to such classes. In addition, the candidate will also require to pay the Matriculation Fee of £2 2s. for each year of study.

III. CERTIFICATE IN FINE ART.

The University Certificate in Fine Art is conferred after examination on students who have attended the prescribed courses and complied with the following regulations :

1. Candidates shall have obtained at the School of Art in Robert Gordon's Technical Colleges or at any other School of Art specially recognised by the University Court for this purpose, the Diploma in Art granted by such School as authorised by the Scottish Education Department, after a minimum of three years' training in the said School of Art.

2. Candidates shall attend the sets of Lectures at present forming the M A. Course in Fine Art in the University of Aberdeen, and pass an Examination therein on a standard not lower than that required for the Degree of Master of Arts.

3. Candidates shall attend in the University of Aberdeen in addition to the course in Fine Art, a course in a subject qualifying for the Degree of Master of Arts or Bachelor of Science, and pass an Examination therein on a standard not lower than that required for the Degree of Master of Arts or Bachelor of Science.

4. Candidates may take the requisite courses and examinations at the University concurrently with the Course at the School of Art, provided that the University's Certificate in Fine Art shall not be awarded until the candidate has produced the Diploma granted by the School of Art.

FEES.

The fee is £3 3s. payable as follows:

£2 2s. on entry for first subject of examination, and £1 1s. on entry for second subject of examination.

A candidate who is not a matriculated student at the date of entry for examination will also require to pay an Admission Fee of £1 1s. in lieu of matriculation.

The fees payable for the classes to be attended at the University are the individual fees applicable to classes in Arts or Science. In addition, the student will be required to pay the Matriculation Fee of £2 2s. for each year of study.

1 to 3 of the foregoing Regulations were approved by the Court on 15th January and the Fees on 11th March, 1924. 13th July, 1926.

NOTE.-The Dates and Hours of Degree Examinations for 1927-28 are subject to alteration, and reference should be made to the Time-tables posted on the Notice Boards prior to the dates of the Examinations.

EXAMINATIONS FOR THE DEGREE OF MASTER
OF ARTS.

N.B.-All candidates for the Degree of M.A. are required to give in their names, with the subjects for which they wish to enter, to the Secretary of the University not later than ten days before the commencement of the first Degree Examination in the term. The degree fee is payable at the same time. Entry cards may be had from the Secretary.

Candidates who have passed the necessary Examinations and desire to graduate are required to meet the Dean of the Faculty at King's College on a prescribed date for the purpose of showing Certificates and enrolling for graduation. Besides the Pass Degree Certificates, Candidates must produce Receipts for the Degree fee of £7 17s. 6d. and for the General Council Registration Fee of £1.

NOTE.-No student will be allowed to enrol for graduation unless he is in possession of all certificates required for the Degree of M.A.

Degree certificates will be issued at the Sacrist's Office, King's College, for subjects taught at King's College, and at the Sacrist's Office, Marischal College, for subjects taught at Marischal College.

Degree certificates will be retained by the Sacrists till the end of the first week of the term immediately succeeding the examination. Thereafter certificates can be obtained only on application at the Secretary's Office and on payment of a fee of 2s. 6d. for each certificate.
