Chemistry.-The Laws of Chemical Change and of Chemical Composition.
The Atomic Theory, Use and Construction of Chemical Equations,
Simple Chemical Calculations involving Gravimetric and Volumetric
Changes.

A general knowledge of the Classification of the Elements will be expected and questions will be set on the Chemistry of the more important Non-metals and of the Metals and their Compounds in

common use.

5. FRENCH, GERMAN, ITALIAN, SPANISH, AND GAELIC will comprise questions on grammar, idiom, philology and literature, translation from English into the foreign language, unseen translation from the foreign language into English, and free composition in the foreign language; and the standard will not be lower than that adopted, at the date when the Special Regulations above-mentioned come into force, for a pass on the Higher Standard at the Preliminary Examination hitherto held at the Scottish Universities.

Two papers will be set in each language, two hours being allowed for each paper.

The First Paper will contain a continuous prose passage and five sentences for translation from English into the foreign language, and an essay in the foreign language on some easy subject.

The Second Paper will be divided into two sections. The first section will contain two passages for unseen translation in English (one in prose and one in verse). The second section will contain three questions on grammar and idiom, one question on philology, and one question on literature; of these five questions the candidate will be required to answer three. The question on literature will comprise a knowledge of at least one standard work in the foreign language. In the case of French, German and Spanish, four standard works will be prescribed each year (in French, two at least from the nineteenth century, and one at least from the seventeenth century); two of the works will be changed from year to year. The works prescribed for the literary question in French, German, and Spanish in Spring and Autumn 1928 will be as follows:

French.-Corneille, Le Cid; Mérimée, Colomba; French Verse from Villon to Verlaine, the selections from Lamartine, Hugo, Vigny and Musset (Dent.); Dumas, La Tulipe Noire (Nelson).

German.-Hauff, Lichenstein (Harrap); Gutzkow, Zopf und Schwert (Camb Univ. Press): Die hundert besten Gedichte, Lyrik, and Epik, the selections from Uhland, Morike, Heine, Storm, Keller and Meyer (Gowans & Gray); Goethe, Egmont. Spanish.-Tamayo y Baus, Un drama nuevo (Madrid, Sociedad de Autores españoles); Selections from Don Quixote (ed. Bévenot, Clarendon Press); A. P. Valdés, La Hermana San Sulpicio (Nelson); Las Cien mejores Poesias (líricas) de la Lengua castellana, Poems 61 to 80 (Gowans & Gray). Examinations in other languages approved by the Board will consist of two papers, each of two hours' duration, and drawn up, as far as possible, in accordance with the Regulations given above

6. DYNAMICS.-Candidates completing their qualification under the old Regulations, and professing Dynamics, must take the two papers in Physical Science. In March and September 1928 the second paper will contain a supplementary section to meet the case of these candidates. The subject "Dynamics "is not one of those recognised under the new Regulations.

III. PRELIMINARY QUALIFICATIONS.

1. Attendance to count for a Degree only after an Entrance Board Certificate has been exhibited.

While the ordinary University Courses are open to anyone (men and women) who may desire to take them on matriculation and payment of the requisite fees, attendance on any course shall not qualify for graduation unless the student has previously obtained a certificate issued by the Scottish Universities Entrance Board, 81 North Street, St. Andrews, showing that he has satisfied the Entrance Board as to his fitness to enter upon a curriculum for a Degree. Forms on which to make application for this certificate may be obtained on application to the Secretary to the University of Aberdeen.

2. Abstract of Entrance Board Regulations.

N.B.-The question as to whether a student is or is not entitled to enter upon a course of study qualifying for graduation is one which by Ordinance must be decided by the Entrance Board.

For full and official information on the subject, reference should be made to the Regulations issued by the Board which will be found in the University Calendar.

All questions as to the interpretation of these regulations should be referred to the Secretary of the Entrance Board, 81 North Street, St. Andrews.

The undernoted abstract summarises the Regulations, but is not authorised by the Board.
