Or earthly honors, wealth, or fame: The sum of our request is this,

New Year: God, our Helper.

1. OUR Helper, God! we bless thy name, Whose love for ever is the same; The tokens of thy gracious care Open, and crown, and close the year. 2. And must thy children die so soon? 3. Yet, in the midst of death and grief, This thought our sorrow should assuage;

"Our Father and our Saviour live: Christ is the same through every age."

Like garments shall be laid aside; But still thy throne stands firm and high; Thy church for ever must abide.
