ry of the Machabees, bewing that what is bere foretold, vas there accomplished. Others maintain that this Pfalm Speaks of the Ruin of Jerufalem, caufed by Nabuchadonofor Whether it be the one or the other, what is said in it may be very well applied in general to the Church, and to the Faithful in Perfecution..

OG

God, the Gentiles are come into thy in heritance; they have polluted thy holy temple; they have made Jerufalem an orchard of Fruit.

They have made the dead bodies of thy fervants meat for the fowls of the air ; the flesh of thy Saints for the beafts of the earth. They have poured out their blood, as water round about Jerufalem: And there was none to bury them.

We are become a reproach to our neigh bours; a fcorn and derifion to them that are about us.

How long, O Lord, wilt thou be angry for ever? How long will thy zeal be kindled as a Fire?

Pour out thy wrath upon the Gentiles, that have not known thee; and upon the king doms, that have not called on thy name.

Because they have devoured Jacob, and his place they have made defolate.

9

Remember not our paft iniquities.; let thy mercies make hafte to prevent us, because our mifery is very great.

Help us, O God our Saviour; and for the glory of thy name, O Lord, deliver us; and be merciful unto our fins, for thy name's. fake.

...Left perhaps they fay among the Gentiles where is their God? And it be known in the nations before our eyes.

Vengeance for the blood of thy fervants which has been fhed: Let the groans of thofe that are fettered, come into thy fight. According to the greatnefs of thy arm, poffefs thou the children of them that are put to death:

And render to our neighbours feven-fold in their bofom, and turn upon them the confufion of what they have done against thee, O Lord.

But we thy people, and the fheep of thy pafture, will confefs to thee for ever.

From generation to generation, we wilk fet forth thy praise.

Glory be to the Father. Or the Pfalm, Our God is a refuge, as before, page 10.

The Pfalm bring ended, fay ;

V. Convert us, O Lord, the God of powers.

R. And how thy face, and we fhall be fafe..

V. Arife, O Chrift, and help us. R. And deliver us for thy name fake. V. O Lord, hear my prayer. B. And let my cry come

to thee.
