THE compiler of the following pages had observed, that no volume of selections has been published in this country especially designed for the reading of females; and in conversation with several respectable Teachers in Female Academies, he was informed that a book adapted to the first class in female schools, and to young ladies who had finished their school education, was much wanted, and that it would probably mote a general taste for useful reading. These considerations induced him to present to the public, "The American Lady's Preceptor."
