LIFT up your heads, eternal gates; Unfold, to entertain
The King of Glory; see He comes With all His shining train!
Who is the King of Glory? who? The LORD, for strength renowned-- In battle mighty, o'er His foes Eternal victor crowned.
Lift up your heads, ye gates, unfold, In state to entertain
The King of Glory; see He comes With all His shining train! Who is the King of Glory? who? The LORD of Hosts renowned:
Of Glory He alone is King, Who is with Glory crowned.
PSALM XXIV. Second Version. Ascension Day.
LORD, who shall mount Thy Holy Hill- The place Thou dost with glory fill? Who shall ascend that blest abode, And dwell so near his Maker, GOD?
He that abhors and fears to sin
Whose heart is pure, whose hands are clean: Him shall the LORD, the SAVIOUR, bless, And clothe his soul with righteousness.
Rejoice, ye shining worlds on high! Behold the King of Glory nigh! Who can this King of Glory be? The Mighty LORD, the SAVIOUR, He! Raised from the dead, He goes before; He opens Heaven's eternal door; He gives His saints that blest abode Near their Redeemer and their GOD.
TO GOD in Whom I trust,
I lift my heart and voice : O let me not be put to shame, Nor let my foes rejoice.
O lead me in Thy Truth, Instruct me in Thy Law; Thou GOD of my salvation, still To Thee my footsteps draw. Preserve my soul from death, Nor put my hope to shame; For I have placed my only trust In Thy Almighty Name.
Thy Mercies and thy Love,
And graciously continue still, As Thou wert ever, kind.
THE LORD of Glory is my Light- My Strength and my Salvation He! Why should I shrink, or at the sight Of all my foes affrighted be?
One thing alone is my desire,
To dwell within His blest Abode-- There in His Temple to enquire, And see the beauty of my GOD.
When storms of trouble dim the air, There may His saints securely hide; GOD has a strong pavilion, where
He makes my soul in peace abide.
Now shall my head be lifted high O'er all mine enemies around; And I my grateful songs of joy Will in His sacred courts resound.
GIVE to the LORD, with one acclaim, Give strength and glory to the LORD; Ascribe due honours to His Name- His Holy Name, by all adored.
Great is the LORD: His glorious Voice Is heard, when mighty thunders speak; Vast ocean trembles at the noise- The mountains roar, the valleys quake. The LORD sits Ruler on the flood; Th' Almighty reigns for ever King; But makes His Church His blest abode, Where we His loving Mercy sing. In gentler language there the LORD The counsels of His Grace imparts; There, 'mid the storms of life, His Word Shall bless with peace our waiting hearts.
Public Thanksgiving in Time of War. WE'LL celebrate Thy praises, LORD, Who didst Thy power employ To raise our drooping heads, and check Our foes' insulting joy.
In our distress to GOD we cried,
Who kindly did attend;
And from the snares of death our souls In Mercy did defend.
Then to His courts, ye saints of His, With songs of praise repair; With me make mention of His Truth, With me His Grace declare.
His Wrath hath but a moment's space; His Love knows no decay;
Weeping may last the night, but joy Comes with the morning ray.
My spirit on Thy care,
Blest SAVIOUR, I recline;
Thou wilt not leave me to despair, For Thou art Love Divine.
In Thee I place my trust, On Thee I calmly rest:
I know Thee just, and good as just, And count Thy choice the best. Whate'er events betide,
Thy Will they all perform; Safe in Thy breast my head I hide, Nor fear the coming storm.
Let good or ill befall,
It must be good for me— Secure of having Thee in all, Of having all in Thee.
LET all the just to GOD with joy Their cheerful voices raise; For well the righteous it becomes, To sing glad songs of praise.
By His Almighty Word at first The arch of heaven was reared; And all the glittering hosts of light At His Command appeared.
Let earth, and all that dwell therein, Before Him trembling stand; He spake the word, and it was made, And fixed at His Command!
Whate'er the mighty LORD decrees Shall stand for ever sure;
The settled purpose of His Heart To ages shall endure.
THROUGH all the changing scenes of life, In trouble and in joy,
The praises of my GoD shall still My heart and tongue employ. Of His deliverance I will boast, Till all, that are distrest, From my example comfort take, And charm their griefs to rest.
O magnify the LORD with me, With me exalt His Name; When in distress to Him I called, He to my rescue came.
The hosts of GOD encamp around The dwellings of the just; Deliverance He affords to all, Who on His succour trust.
O make but trial of His Love; Experience shall decide, How blest are they, and only they, Who in His Truth confide!
Fear Him, ye saints, and you will then Have nothing else to fear:
Make you His service your delight— He'll make your wants His care.
O LORD, Thy Mercy, our sure Hope, The highest orb of heaven transcends ; Thy sacred Truth's unmeasured scope Beyond the spreading sky extends. Thy Justice, like the hills, remains; A mighty deep Thy Judgments are; Thy Providence the world sustains ; The whole creation is Thy care.
