Cette composition a beaucoup de rapport avec une autre sainte famille décrite sous le n°. 34; elle est composée du même nombre de personnages: la Vierge y est assise au milieu, et quatre anges sont occupés à servir l'enfant Jésus. Mais dans celle-ci sainte Élisabeth est à droite, saint Joseph est debout, ainsi qu'une femme qui ne porte aucun caractère distinctif; et l'enfant Jésus, assis sur un des genoux de la Vierge, prend des fleurs dans un panier que lui présentent des anges. Le fond représente un paysage avec une ville; le monument près duquel se passe la scène n'est pas terminé, et on aperçoit de chaque côté la base d'une colonne. Ce tableau a été gravé par Stella. Il se trouve maintenant dans la galerie du prince Liechtenstein, à Vienne. Larg., 5 pieds; haut., 3 pieds. There is much affinity between this piece and another holy family described at no. 34, as it comprises the same number of figures. In the latter however, the Virgin is seated in the middle, and four angels are attending the infant Jesus, but in this saint Elisabeth is on the right hand, St. Joseph standing up, also a woman who bears no distinctive character. Jesus sitting on one of the Virgin's knees is taking flowers from a basket which the angels present to him. The back ground represents a landscape with a city; the monument near which the scene takes place is not terminated, and on each side stands the base of a column. This picture has been engraved by Stella. It is now in the Prince of Liechtenstein's gallery, at Vienna. Height, 5 feet 4 inches; breadth, 3 feet 2 inches. |
