OF THE CLERK OF THE DISTRICT COURT IN THE CITY OF NEW YORK, FOR THE FIRST JUDICIAL DISTRICT, IN ANSWER TO A RESOLUTION OF THE SENATE.

Sir-I herewith submit statement as requested by your order dated February 28th, 1881

Whole number of actions brought in this court for the year 1880 Was (5,091) five thousand and ninety-one.

Number of summons issued by me for which I received one dollar each was (1,585) one thousand five hundred and eighty-five. Number of trials in same was (264) two hundred and sixty-four.

Number of pauper summons issued by me was (167) one hundred and sixty-seven. Number of trials in same was (64) sixty-four. Number of summons issued by justice in summary proceedings was (1,882) eighteen hundred and eighty-two. Number of trials in same Was (481) four hundred and eighty-one.

Number of precepts issued by me was (157) one hundred and fiftyseven. Number of trials in same was (19) nineteen.

Number of actions brought by the corporation attorney was (1,300) thirteen hundred. Number of trials in same was (509) five hundred

and nine.

The amount for each month returned by me to the comptroller was
