PFNOR, R. Monographie du Palais de Fontainebleau. Monograph of the Palace of Fontainebleau. Drawn by R. Pfnor, with a Historical Sketch by Champollion Figeac, Librarian of the Imperial Palace of Fontainebleau. 2 vols., folio, half morocco, $100.00; a second-hand copy little injured, binding only rubbed, $75.00.

The Palace of Fontainebleau is remarkable for the chasteness of its architecture and the richness of its decorations. It is in itself a representation of French national art from Francis I to Louis XIII.

The Monograph of the Palace of Fontainebleau consists of 145 plates, (5 of them being colored lithographs,) and illustrated reading matter. The first volume contains representations of the Oval Court, the Maintenon Pavilion, La cour des Fontaines, Henry IV Court, the Stag Gallery, Louis XIII's Baptistery, the White Horse Court and the Grand Vestibule, and the Chapel of the Trinity. The second volume is specially devoted to the internal decorations, containing detailed representations of Francis I Gallery, the Gallery of Henry II, the Salon Louis XIII, the State Rooms, and St. Saturnin's Chapel.

The historical and descriptive part by M. ChampollionFigeac is replete with interesting and hitherto unpublished information.
