(b) Tabular Statement of Income and Expenditure of the close of the Dundee 1868 to (No permanent charges up to the year 1871-dating to London Congress.) 1870 1871 NOTES. (a) Income (col. 1) is exclusive of Delegates' Fees to Congress, and of the previous year's balance. It means net Income. (b) The Secretary was paid no salary until 1872-3. The total amount so paid, inclusive of rent, office expenses, clerical assistance, etc., for the five years, 1871 to 1875 inclusive, was £460 178. (c) Rent was first allowed for the year 1876, on the election of the new Secretary. (d) Allowance for clerical work was first made in 1877, when £20 16s, was voted to the Secretary. (e) The Treasurer was allowed no expenses until 1874, increased to £15 in 1875. f) Members of the Parliamentary Committee are only paid for the time given, and their expenses. (g) Stationery and printing are included in the years where the items are not separately given in the Table. (h) The Income includes sale of Reports since the year 1877, before which date they were issued as a private speculation. The sales now pay about twothirds the entire cost of all the printing. (i) During the years 1871 to 1875 all publications were circulated gratuitously by the Committee. * In Office expenses, 1884 and 1885, these items include furniture, repairs, and sundries. The balance of £90 10s. in 1888-89 was for the expenses of the International Congress. VII.-FOREIGN COMPETITION. Abstract of Returns, showing the aggregate Exports from Foreign Countries of Manufactured Goods and Merchandise which are alleged to come into competition with British Goods. The amounts represent the total exports to all countries; those to the United Kingdom only being given separately, at the end, in each case.
