drinking, or sinful indulgence of any kind: may we be thoroughly honest and conscientious in all we do; keeping our hands from picking and stealing, our tongues from evil-speaking, lying, and slandering, our bodies in temperance, soberness, and chastity, so that, in all our doings, we may be preserved from the corruption that is in the world, and do all for Thee! O enable us now to go forth to our respective duties as in thy sight. Give us throughout the day a comfortable sense that thy presence is with us, and with us for good; for Jesus Christ's sake, our only Lord and Saviour. Amen.

AT EVENING DEVOTION.

"Hallowed be thy Name.

ST. LUKE Xi, 2.

O HOLY FATHER, Lord of Heaven and Earth, graciously enable us, thy poor unworthy servants, to give Thee the glory due unto thy Name. O Lord, it is with shame and sorrow that we daily hear thy sacred Name blasphemed among men. O may the cursing of the ungodly make us the more desirous to hallow thy Name; evermore in thought and word, treating it with that reverence which becomes a Name so holy and so good. If any of us have this day uttered thy Name in

thoughtlessness, or lightly spoken of religious things, or religious persons, Lord, pardon the offence. Give us repentance and grace to do so no more. May the remembrance of thy Name refresh us now in the stillness of the night season, when we think of Thee as our Almighty and ALL-SUFFICIENT GOD, our SAVIOUR from sin, our COMFORTER in the hour of need. In thy mercy, defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; but should any fears be permitted to molest us, may the Name of the Lord be our strong Tower, whereunto we may always resort. bless us and keep us. Restrain the wicked: protect the helpless: relieve the suffering: comfort the dying. Be with all who are near and dear to us, both here and elsewhere. Bless our children and, if it please Thee to bring us in health and safety to the light of another day, may they join us early in the work of prayer, and of hallowing thy Name, through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.

Lord,

TUESDAY.

AT MORNING DEVOTION.

"Commit thy way unto the Lord: trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass." Ps. xxxvii, 5.

O GOD, Thou art our God; early will we seek Thee. Our voice shalt Thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will we direct our prayer unto Thee, and will look up. In accordance with thy gracious word, we commit our ways to Thee: we wish to begin the day with an act of worship, and to continue, and to end it with the feeling of thy divine presence and guidance. Lord, we know not what a day may bring forth; nor what may happen before the night come: grant us then to be watchful, and to redeem the time. And if it should please Thee in thy wise and fatherly providence to bring evil upon us or ours, O grant, that as our day, so may our strength be; that what the thoughtless world calls evil, may be received by us as no other than good, when it comes from thy hand, O gracious Father!

We trust also in Thee. And in what can we trust, O Lord, if we trust not in Thee? Thou art our creating and sustaining God: in Thee we live, and move, and have our being. Thou art also our redeeming God: pity us wretched sinners, for whom Thou hast provided so wonderful a salvation in the death of thy dear Son. O Thou that hast not spared thine own Son, but delivered him up for us all, wilt Thou not with him freely give us all good things? Wilt Thou not give us more abundantly of thy Holy Spirit? We trust Thou wilt; we accept thy gracious promises; and commit our way, for time and for eternity, to thy good keeping. All that may advance thy glory, and minister to our necessities, bring to pass, O Heavenly Father, for thy Son our Saviour Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

AT EVENING DEVOTION.

Thy kingdom come." ST. LUKE Xi, 2.

LORD, at the close of another day we would lift up our united voices to Thee. Many are the sins we have to deplore, many the wants to make known, many the blessings to acknowledge, many the friends to intercede for. Our sins have weighed us down, and made us indeed to feel that we are of the earth, earthy. Wherefore we would the more earnestly pray that thy kimgdom may

come, and be received into our hearts. O that we may be able to feel that the kingdom of God is within us. Enable us to make great advances in thy kingdom of grace, and fit us here after for thy kingdom in glory.

How can we sufficiently thank Thee, O Lord of Love, that Thou hast called us out of darkness into thy marvellous light-out of Satan's kingdom to be heirs of thy kingdom-and from the earthly cross to win the heavenly crown!

Or, how can we worthily pray in behalf of those who are yet ignorant of this kingdom! Lord of all power and might, bless the preaching of thine own word at home and abroad: especially out of heathen lands may many a subject be gathered into thy glorious kingdom. May Jew and Gentile flock into this kingdom, and be saved with us, through Christ our King. O bless the endeavours of all the Ambassadors of thy kingdom, whether missionaries abroad, or ministers at home. And since Thou hast encouraged us to draw near in prayer, we would most humbly beseech Thee, O Lord, to hasten thy kingdom; that we, with all those that are departed in the true faith of thy Holy Name, may have our perfect consummation and bliss, both in body and soul, in thy everlasting kingdom: through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
