Objectionable books excluded when noted. In answering state edition, condition and price including transportation. Credit responsibility of advertisers is not guaranteed but space in the columns will be denied to dealers who misuse it. The Book Hunter The demand for first editions in the Books Wanted columns of the Publishers' Weekly for February was greater than it has been for some months. This was due in part to the requests for titles not before sought and in part to the growth in popularity of those who have been represented on this list before. For instance there are among the newcomers Ford Madox Ford (the erstwhile Ford Madox Hueffer, who claims 5th place), Lizette Reese, BaringGould, Gorky and Gertrude Stein, while, as an example of growing popularity, there are 9 requests for any first edition by Stephen Crane where as last month there were but as many for separate titles by him. James Branch Cabell still leads with 9 demands for any first edition and 22 for separate titles. Crane follows and then O'Neill, a great jump for both of these. Poe, who has of late been second, is fourth and the order of the others on the list is about the same as it has been in the past. The interest shown last month in illustrators while not as great continues, Pape leading and Clarke and Beardsley following. It is interesting to note that while all of these work at times in color their most important work is in black and white. A Denver bookstore writes of our Books for Sale section, "We are more than pleased with the results we have had from this column." (Adair Bk. Co.) A mail order bookseller in Glendale, California writes, "I think your magazine is a wonderful affair and I think every book lover whether he is a dealer or not, should subscribe for it." (Ellen B. Churchill). From Long Beach, California. "Our ads. placed with you have been so universally satisfactory that we are pleased to say, "It pays both ways.'" (Long Beach Book Exchange). Craig.
