PRAYER.

LORD, teach me to pray

THIS

HIS is the day which the Lord hath made, may I rejoice and be glad in it. O Lord, open Thou my lips, and my mouth shall shew forth Thy praise. Prepare my heart to seek Thee truly this day, and do Thou, O my God, incline Thine ear, and hear me, when I offer up my prayers and supplications towards Thy mercy seat. May I so realize Thy presence in Thy house of prayer, that I may behave with reverence` and godly fear; help me to banish from my mind all vain and worldly and wandering thoughts, and as Christ purged His temple, so may Thy Spirit cleanse my heart, and dispose it to Thy service.

Grant that with a meek and teachable spirit I may hear Thy word read and preached, not judging the preacher, but receiving the truth in humility may ponder it in my heart, and shew forth Thy praise not only with my lips, but in my life.

Bless the means used to spread the truth this day both at home and abroad; strengthen Thy ministers for the work whereunto Thou hast called them (especially him whom Thou hast set over this parish), make them diligently to preach Thy holy word, and both by their life and doctrine to set forth Thy glory, and set forward the salvation of all men.

Stir up the hearts of Thy faithful people to greater zeal and earnestness; have mercy upon those who never pray for themselves, and take from them all ignorance, hardness of heart, and con

tempt of Thy word. And, O Lord, I for those who are in error, pray that they may have grace to seek the truth in humility, not trusting to their own wisdom, but putting themselves under the guidance of Thy Spirit, Who alone can lead them into the way of truth.

Look mercifully upon this parish; may the good seed sown this day take root in the hearts of all who hear, and give repentance to those who neglect the means of grace; may the rich set a good example to the poor, and may the young be trained up in the way they should go.

I commend to Thee all who are endeared to me by the ties of relationship, solemn promises, duty, and friendship; may the Lord bless us, and keep us; may the Lord lift up the light of His countenance upon us, and
