Not all alike supernal Heaven endows,

Nor equal mind to equal heart allows :

Full oft ingenuous pangs, and noble tears,

Or modest doubt, the phantom child of fears,

To humble Worth a consecration lend,

That proves for lost renown sublime amend ;—

Let mind be nurs'd, though doom'd a narrow sphere,

And what his Maker gives, let man revere !

Allow that Genius wears a curbless soul

That chafes in fetters, and defies control;

And, haughty as the mountain eagle chain'd,

Hath every empire but her own disdain'd.
