SIR: Referring to Senate resolution dated January 7 instant, instructing the Secretary of War and the Secretary of the Navy to furnish the Senate:

The number of persons serving in the Army and Navy, respectively, imprisoned during the year nineteen hundred and twelve; for what offenses; the term of importonment imposed in each case; the prison or other place of such imprisonment; and the nature and kind of prisons in which incarcerated.

Also:

The number of such persons so serving the Government now serving prison sentences; for what offense in each case; the term of imprisonment imposed; and for what offenses and where imprisoned

I beg to invite attention to the accompanying statements prepared by The Adjutant General of the Army, furnishing the desired information so far as it pertains to the War Department.
