A copy of constitution of 1861 with address to people, accompanied by the constitution of the Confederate States, with ordinances, etc., is prefixed to Gammel's Laws of Texas, Vol. 5, edition, 1898. In United States Charters and Constitutions, Part II, p. 1784, it appears that the ordinance of secession was passed at a "peoples convention" Feb. 1, 1861, which was submitted to the people and ratified. The convention also amended the constitution, but the amendments were not submitted to the people.
