1824. Prior to this year the territory was subject to Spanish rule. At this time it passed into Mexican control.

1845. Seized by Capt. Frémont for the United States.

1848. Ceded by Mexico to United States by treaty at close of Mexican War. (Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.)
