O! that I now thy rest might know, Believe, and enter in ;
Now, Saviour, now the power bestow, And let me cease from sin.
Remove the hardness from my heart, My unbelief remove;
To me the rest of faith impart, The sabbath of thy love.
Come, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,
And make me thine abode;
Let all I am in Thee be lost, Let all be lost in God.
THERE is a land of pure delight, Where saints immortal reign; Infinite day excludes the night, And pleasures banish pain.
There everlasting spring abides, And never-with'ring flowers; Death, like a narrow sea, divides This heavenly land from ours.
O could we make our doubts remove, Those gloomy doubts that rise, And see the Canaan that we love With faith's unclouded eyes;
Could we but climb where Moses stood,
And view the landscape o'er,
Not Jordan's streams, nor death's cold flood, Should fright us from the shore.
LIGHT of those, whose dreary dwelling Borders on the shades of death;
Jesu, now thy love revealing,
Scatter every cloud beneath! Still we wait for thine appearing, Life and joy thy beams impart, Chasing all our doubts, and cheering Every meek and contrite heart. Show thy power in every nation,
O Thou Prince of peace and love! Give the knowledge of salvation, Fix our hearts on things above: By thine all-sufficient merit Every burden'd soul release ;
By the presence of thy Spirit Guide us into perfect peace.
HEAR what God the Lord hath spoken, O my people, faint and few, Comfortless, afflicted, broken,
Fair abodes I build for you: Thorns of heart-felt tribulation Shall no more perplex your ways; You shall name your walls Salvation, And your gates shall all be Praise. There, like streams that feed the garden, Pleasures without end shall flow; For the Lord, your faith rewarding, All his bounty shall bestow: Still in undisturb'd possession
Peace and righteousness shall reign;
Never shall you feel oppression,
Hear the voice of war again.
Ye, no more your suns descending, Waning moons no more shall see; But, your griefs for ever ending, Find eternal noon in Me:
God shall rise, and, shining o'er you, Change to day the gloom of night; He, the Lord, shall be your glory, God, your everlasting light.
GLORIOUS things of thee are spoken, Zion, city of our God!
He, whose word cannot be broken, Form'd thee for his own abode : On the Rock of Ages founded,
What can shake thy sure repose ? With Salvation's walls surrounded, Thou may'st smile at all thy foes. See, the streams of living waters, Springing from eternal love, Well supply thy sons and daughters, And all fear of want remove :
Who can faint while such a river
Ever flows their thirst t' assuage? Grace which, like the Lord the giver, Never fails from age to age.
Saviour, if of Zion's city
By thy grace we members are, Let the world deride or pity,
We will boast the name we bear: Fading is all this world's pleasure, All its boasted pomp and show; Solid joys and lasting treasure
None but Zion's children know.
JERUSALEM, my happy home, Name ever dear to me!
When shall my labours have an end, In joy, and peace, and thee?
When shall these eyes thy heaven-built walls
And gates of pearl behold;
Thy bulwarks with salvation strong,
And streets of shining gold?
Jesus, my Saviour, dwells therein, In glorious majesty ;
And Him, through every changing scene, Onward I press to see.
Apostles, prophets, martyrs, there Around the Saviour stand; And soon my friends in Christ below Will join the glorious band.
Jerusalem, my happy home,
My soul still pants for thee; Then shall my labours have an end, When I thy joys shall see.
FAR from these narrow scenes of night
Unbounded glories rise;
And realms of infinite delight,
Unknown to mortal eyes.
No cloud those blissful regions know,
For ever bright and fair; For sin, the source of mortal woe, Can never enter there.
The King eternal there displays His beams of wondrous grace; His happy subjects sing his praise, And bow before his face.
O! may the heavenly prospect fire Our hearts with ardent love; Till wings of faith, and strong desire, Bear every thought above!
COME, we that love the Lord, And let our joys be known; Join in a song with sweet accord, And thus surround the throne.
The men of grace have found Glory begun below;
Celestial fruits on earthly ground To faith and hope may grow.
The hill of Zion yields
A thousand sacred sweets,
Before we reach the heavenly fields,
Or walk the golden streets.
Then let our songs abound,
And every tear be dry;
We're marching through Immanuel's ground,
To fairer worlds on high.
