THIS God is the God we adore,

Our faithful, unchangeable Friend;
Whose love is as great as his power,
And neither knows measure nor end.

'Tis Jesus, the First and the Last,
Whose Spirit shall guide us safe home;
We'll praise Him for all that is past,
And trust Him for all that 's to come.

OUR times are in thy hand,
O God, we wish them there;
Our life, our souls, our all we leave
To thine Almighty care.

Our times are in thy hand,
Whatever they may be;

Pleasing or painful, dark or bright,
As best may seem to Thee.

Our times are in thy hand;
Why should we doubt or fear?
A Father's hand will never cause
His child a needless tear.

Our times are in thy hand,
We'll always trust in Thee;
Till safe we in thy presence stand,
And all thy glory see.

GOD moves in a mysterious way,
His wonders to perform;

He plants his footsteps in the sea,
And rides upon the storm.

Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take,
The clouds ye so much dread
Are big with mercy, and shall break
In blessings on your head.

Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,
But trust Him for his grace;
Behind a frowning providence
He hides a smiling face.

Blind unbelief is sure to err,
And scan his work in vain;
God is his own interpreter,
And He will make it plain.

AUTHOR of good, to Thee we turn;
Thine ever-wakeful eye

Alone can all our wants discern,
Thy hand alone supply.

O let thy fear within us dwell,
Thy love our footsteps guide;
That love shall other loves expel,
That fear all fears beside.

Not to our wish, but to our want,
Do Thou thy gifts apply;

The good, unask'd, in mercy grant,
The ill, though ask'd, deny.

WE 'VE no abiding city here,

Sad truth, were this to be our home;
But let the thought our spirits cheer,
We seek a city yet to come.

We 've no abiding city here,
Then let us live as pilgrims do;
Let not the world our rest appear,
But let us haste from all below.

We've no abiding city here,
We seek a city out of sight,
Zion its name, the Lord is there,
It shines with everlasting light.

O sweet abode of peace and love!
Where pilgrims freed from toil are blest;
Had I the pinions of the dove,

I'd fly to thee, and be at rest.

But hush, my soul, nor dare repine,
The time my God appoints is best;
While here, to do his will be mine,
And his to fix my time of rest.

LORD, I believe a rest remains,
To all thy people known;

A rest where pure enjoyment reigns,
And Thou art lov'd alone.
