LO! He comes with clouds descending,

Once for favour'd sinners slain ;
Thousand thousand saints attending
Swell the triumph of his train :

Jesus comes; He comes to reign!
Every eye shall now behold Him,

Rob’d in dreadful majesty;
They, who set at nought and sold Him,
Pierc'd and nail'd Him to the tree,

Deeply wailing,
Shall the great Messiah see.
Now redemption, long expected,

See in solemn pomp appear;
All his saints, by man rejected,
Rise to meet Him in the air :

See the day of God appear!
Yea, Amen! let all adore Thee,

High on thine exalted throne ;
Saviour, take the

and glory;
Claim the kingdoms for thine own:

O come quickly;
Hallelujah! Come, Lord, come.

THE day of wrath ! that dreadful day,
When heaven and earth shall pass away,
What power shall be the sinner's stay ?
How shall he meet that dreadful day!

When shrivelling like a parched scroll,
The flaming heavens together roll ;
When louder yet, and yet more dread,
Swells the high trump that wakes the deal.
0! on that day, that wrathful day,
When man to judgment wakes from clay,
Be Thou, O Christ! the sinner's stay,
Though heaven and earth shall pass away.

GREAT God, what do I see and hear !

The end of things created !
The Judge of all men doth appear,

On clouds of glory seated ;
The trumpet sounds, the graves restore
The dead which they contain'd before :

Prepare, my soul, to meet Him.
The dead in Christ shall first arise,

At the last trumpet's sounding,
To meet their Saviour in the skies,

With joy his throne surrounding ;
No gloomy fears their souls dismay,
His presence sheds eternal day

On those prepard to meet Him.
Great God, to Thee our prayers we pour,

In deep abasement bending;
O shield us in that last dread hour,

Thy wondrous love extending;
May we, in this our trial day,
With wakeful hearts thy word obey,

And thus prepare to meet Him.

HARK, the herald angels sing,
Glory to the new-born King,
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconcil'd !
Joyful all ye nations rise,
Join the triumph of the skies,
With th' angelic host proclaim,
Christ is born in Bethlehem.
Christ by highest heaven ador'd,
Christ the everlasting Lord,
Late in time behold Him come,
Offspring of a virgin's womb :
Veil'd in flesh the Godhead He,
Hail th’ Incarnate Deity!
Pleas'd as man with man to dwell,
Jesus our Immanuel.
Hail the heaven-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Sun of Righteousness !
Light and life to all He brings,
Ris'n with healing in his wings:
Mild He lays his glory by,
Born that man no more may die;
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.

BRIGHT and joyful is the morn,
For to us a Child is born;
From the highest realm of heaven
Unto us a Son is given.

On his shoulder He shall bear
Power and majesty, and wear
On his vesture and his thigh
Names most glorious, names most high.
Wonderful in counsel He,
The Incarnate Deity !
Sire of ages ne'er to cease,
King of kings, and Prince of Peace !
Come and worship at his feet,
Yield to Christ the homage meet,
From his manger to his throne,
Homage due to God alone.

HIGH let us swell our tuneful notes,

And join th'angelic throng,
For angels no such love have known,

To wake their cheerful song.
Good-will to sinful men is shown,

And peace on earth is given;
For lo! th'Incarnate Saviour comes

With light and life from heaven.
Justice and

with sweet accord,
His rising beams adorn ;
Let heaven and earth in concert sing,

To us a Child is born !
Glory to God in highest strains,

In highest worlds be paid ;
His glory by our lips proclaim'd,

And in our lives display'd !

COME, Thou long-expected Jesus,

Born to set thy people freė;
From our fears and sins release us,

Let us find our rest in Thee :
Israel's strength and consolation,

Hope of all the saints Thou art;
Come, Desire of every nation,

Joy of every longing heart.

Born thy people to deliver,

Born a child, and yet a King;
Born to reign in us for ever,

Now thy gracious kingdom bring:
By thine own eternal Spirit

Rule in all our hearts alone;
By thine all-sufficient merit

Raise us to thy glorious throne.

O JESU, Saviour, full of grace,

Thou Lord of earth and heaven,
Thy boundless love our souls would trace,

Whose life for us was given.

We bless Thee for that saving Name,

This day assum'd by Thee;
The curse endur'd, with bitter shame,

Our souls from guilt to free.
