9 Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

f10 And the disciples came, and
said unto him, Why speakest thou
unto them in parables?
t 11 He answered and said unto
them, Because it is given unto
you to know the mysteries of the
kingdom of heaven, but to them
it is not given.

12 For whosoever hath, to him
shall be given, and he shall have
more abundance: but whosoever
hath not, from him shall be taken
away even that he hath.
t 13 Therefore speak I to them in
parables: because they seeing, see
not; and hearing, they hear not;
neither do they understand.
a 14 And in them is fulfilled the
prophecy of Esaias, which saith,
By hearing ye shall hear, and shall
not understand; and seeing ye
shall see, and shall not perceive:

15 For this people's heart is waxf2 And great multitudes were ed gross, and their ears are dull of gathered together unto him, so hearing, and their eyes they have that he went into a ship, and sat; closed; lest at any time they should and the whole multitude stood on see with their eyes, and hear with the shore. their ears, and should understand

The servants said That many prophets and righteous unto him, Wilt thou then that we men have desired to see those things go and gather them up? which ye see, and have not seen 29 But he said, Nay; lest while them; and to hear those things which ye gather up the tares, ye root up ye hear, and have not heard them. also the wheat with them. 18 Hear ye therefore the para-A 30 Let both grow together until ble of the sower. the harvest and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

t 19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which receiveth seed by the way-side.

20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;

i 31 T Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard-seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field :

32 Which indeed is the least of 21 Yet hath he not root in him- all seeds: but when it is grown, it self, but dureth for a while; for is the greatest among herbs, and when tribulation or persecution becometh a tree, so that the birds ariseth because of the word, by of the air come and lodge in the and by he is offended.

m 22 He also that received seed
among the thorns is he that hear-
eth the word; and the care of this
world, and the deceitfulness of
riches choke the word, and he be-
cometh unfruitful.

d 23 But he that received seed in-
to the good ground is he that hear-
eth the word, and understandeth
it; which also beareth fruit, and
bringeth forth, some a hundred-
fold, some sixty, some thirty..
i 24 T Another parable put he
forth unto them, saying, The king-
dom of heaven is likened unto a
man which sowed good seed in his
field :

25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.

26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.

branches thereof.

i 33 T Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of hea ven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

34 All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them:

a 35 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; Iwill utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world. f36 Then Jesus sent the multi tude away, and went into the house; and his disciples came un|to him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field. t 37 He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;

27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, 38 The field is the world; the Sir, didst not thou sow good seed good seed are the children of the in thy field? from whence then kingdom; but the tares are the hath it tares? children of the wicked one;

28 He said unto them, An enemy! 39 The enemy that sowed them

is the devil; the harvest is the end out of his treasure things new and of the world; and the reapers are the angels.

40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire: so shall it be in the end of this world. t 41 The Son of man shall send `forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;

old.

f53 T And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence.

54 And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?

55 Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary ? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?

56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?

42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. t 43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. i 44 T Again, The kingdom of c 57 And they were offended in heaven is like unto treasure hid in him. But Jesus saith unto them, A a field; the which when a man prophet is not without honour, hath found, he hideth, and for joy save in his own country, and in his thereof goeth and selleth all that own house. he hath, and buyeth that field. ? 45 Again, The kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchantman seeking goodly pearls:

46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it. i 47 Again, The kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind :

48 Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.

t 49 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just.

p 58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

ƒ 22 T And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the mul titudes away.

f13 ¶ When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities. h 14 And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick. f 15 TAnd when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.

26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.

27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. f 28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. m 29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and be ginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

32 And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

33 Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

HEN came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,

2 Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.

p 3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?

f 15 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.

16 And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?

17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?

18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

4 For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: t 19 For out of the heart proceed and, he that curseth father or evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, mother, let him die the death. fornications, thefts, false witness,

5 But Ye say, Whosoever shall blasphemies: say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;

6 And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.

a 7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,

20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man. f21 T Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.

t 22 And behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of 8 This people draweth nigh unto David; my daughter is greviously me with their mouth, and honour-vexed with a devil. eth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
