FRIDAY.

God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation, by our LORD JESUS CHRIST, Who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep we should live together with Him.

SATURDAY.

There remaineth a rest to the people of GOD. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest.

Then immediately after the proper Text for the day.

Brethren, be sober, be vigilant, for your adversary the devil goeth about seeking whom he may devour, whom resist stedfast in the faith.

R. Thou, LORD, art in the midst of us, and we are called by Thy Name. Leave us not, O LORD our GOD.

V. Thanks be to GOD which giveth us the victory :

R. Through our LORD JESUS CHRIST.

V. Our help standeth in the Name of the LORD:

R. Who made heaven and earth.

V. The LORD be with you:

R. And with thy spirit.

EVENSONG; OR EVENING PRAYER.

First let all kneel in silence and each pray privately for a short space.

Texts for the day, see pages 19 to 21.

All.

Confession.

O ALMIGHTY GOD, most merciful FATHER, We have sinned against Thee exceedingly in thought, word, and deed.

We have rebelled against Thy sovereign Will, Neglected Thy Holy Counsels and broken Thy righteous laws;

We have sinned, O ceedingly, and are no more worthy to be called Thy children; yet cast us not out of Thy presence. But for the sake of Thy dear SoN, our LORD and SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST, give us penitent and contrite hearts, and grant us pardon and peace.

LORD, we have sinned ex

Amen.

Prayer for Pardon.

Almighty God, have mercy upon us.

Absolve

us from our sins, and bring us to life everlasting,

through JESUS CHRIST Our LORD.

Our FATHER, which art in heaven,

Hallowed be Thy name.

Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done in earth,

As it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;

But deliver us from evil:

For Thine is the kingdom,

Here the Special Service for the Season may be said, or the following to the Intercession.

Text. Abide with us, for it is towards evening and the day is far spent.

Hymn.

Sun of my soul, Thou SAVIOUR dear,

It is not night if Thou art near,
O let no earth-born clouds arise

To hide Thee from Thy servants' eyes.

Abide with me from morn till eve,
For without Thee I cannot live;
Abide with me when night is nigh,
For without Thee I dare not die.

Come near and bless us when we wake,

Ere through the world our way we take,
Till in the ocean of Thy love,

We lose ourselves in heaven above.

Antiphon. He hath made the outgoing of the morning and evening to praise Him.

Psalm.

Whoso dwelleth under the defence of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the ALMIGHTY.

:

I will say unto the LORD, Thou art my hope and my strong hold: my GoD, in Him will I

trust.

For He shall deliver thee from the snare of the hunter and from the noisome pestilence.

He shall defend thee under His wings, and thou shalt be safe under His feathers: His faithfulness and truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

Thou shalt not be afraid for any terror by night nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

For the pestilence that walketh in darkness: nor for the sickness that destroyeth in the noonday.

Glory be to the FATHER, and to the Son and to the HOLY GHOST;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

Antiphon. He hath made the outgoings of the morning and evening to praise Him.

Benediction. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see GOD.

Lesson.

Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest: take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me, for I am meek and lowly of heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls for My yoke is easy and My burden is light.

All. Thanks be to God.

V. O LORD, let our prayers be set forth in Thy sight as incense:

R. And let the lifting up of our hands be an evening sacrifice.

V. The LORD Almighty grant us a quiet night and a holy death :

R. The Almighty and merciful God bless and protect us.

V. Vouchsafe, O LORD, to keep us this night without sin :

R. And deliver us from the power of darkness. V. Keep us as the apple of an eye:

R. Hide us under the shadow of Thy wings. V. Save us, O GOD, when we awake; guard us while we sleep :

R. That we may watch with CHRIST, and rest in peace :
