1 AWAKE my soul, and with the sun Thy daily stage of duty run; Shake off dull sloth, and joyful rise, To pay thy morning sacrifice.
2 Wake, and lift up thyself, my heart, And with the angels bear thy part; Who all night long unwearied sing High glory to th' eternal King.
3 All praise to Thee who safe hast kept, And hast refreshed me whilst I slept : Grant, Lord, when I from death shall wake, may of endless life partake.
4 Lord, I my vows to Thee renew,
Disperse my sins as morning dew,
Guard my first springs of thought and will, And with Thyself my spirit fill.
5 Direct, control, suggest this day, All I design, or do, or say;
That all my powers, with all their might, In thy sole glory may unite
1 CHRIST, whose glory fills the skies, Christ the true and only light, Sun of righteousness, arise,
Triumph o'er the shades of night: Day-spring from on high, be near; Day-star, in my heart appear.
2 Dark and cheerless is the morn If uncheered, unblest by Thee; Joyless is the day's return
Till thy mercy's beams I see- Till they inward light impart, Glad my eyes and warm my heart.
3 Visit then this soul of mine,
Pierce the gloom of sin and grief Fill me with thy light divine! Scatter all my unbelief: More and more Thyself display, Shining to the perfect day.
1 THROUGH all the dangers of the night Preserved, O Lord, by Thee,
Again we hail the cheerful light, Again we bow the knee.
2 Preserve us, Lord, throughout the day, And guide us by thine arm; For they are safe, and only they, Whom Thou preserv'st from harm.
3 Let all our words and all our ways Declare that we are thine,
That so the light of truth and grace Before the world may shine.
4 Let us ne'er turn away from Thee; O Saviour, hold us fast, Till with unclouded eyes we see Thy glorious face at last.
1 NEW every morning is the love
Our wakening and uprising prove,
Through sleep and darkness safely brought, Restored to life and power and thought.
2 New mercies, each returning day, Hover around us while we pray; New perils past, new sins forgiven, New thoughts of God, new hopes of heaven.
3 If, on our daily course, our mind Be set to hallow all we find,
New treasures still, of countless price, God will provide for sacrifice.
4 The trivial round, the common task, Will furnish all we ought to ask; Room to deny ourselves,- -a road To bring us daily nearer God.
5 Only, O Lord, in thy dear love Fit us for perfect rest above; And help us, this and every day, To live more nearly as we pray.
1 ETERNAL Sun of righteousness, Display thy beams divine,
And cause the glories of thy face Upon our hearts to shine.
2 Light in thy light O may we see Thy grace and mercy prove; Reviv'd and cheer'd and blest by Thee The God of pardoning love.
3 In Christ, thy blessed Son, reveal The brightness of thy face; And all thy pardon'd people fill With fulness of thy grace.
4 Thy love, thy peace, thy strength, bestow, On us, through grace forgiven;
The joys of holiness below,
And then the joys of heaven.
