He Himself, from sleep awaking
Who spontaneous bears the gloom,
Death cannot hold
They cried out, “ Thy death-bed leave,
To death resigned,
would for ever grieve,
"Tis He alone
May we die, and with Thee rise ;
To sing our GOD,
"Have mercy upon me, O LORD: Thou that liftest me up from the gates of death.” 75. YE choirs of new Jerusalem,
Your sweetest notes employ,
In strains of holy joy ;
And crushed the Serpent's head,
The long-imprisoned dead.
Alone our Leader bore:
His ransomed Hosts pursue their way,
His sceptre ruleth all;
And at His footstool fall.
His mercy we implore,
And keep us evermore.
“Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son." 76. JESU, the world's Redeeming LORD,
Of Sire Most High Co-equal Word,
“If we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him." 77. Jesu lives ! no longer now
Can thy terrors, Death, appal us :
Over all the world is given :
Then alone to JESU living
Nought from us His love shall sever,
But the gate of life immortal ;
The Ascension. “While they beheld, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.” 78. HAIL! the day that sees Him rise,
Thee the glorious triumph waits,
“When He ascended up on high, He led captivity captive, and received gifts for men, and having spoiled principalities and powers, He made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it." 79. AUTHOR of lost man's salvation,
JESU! each true heart's Delight,
Framer of the new creation,
Light of lovers chaste and bright!
Thus to bear Thy creatures' sin :
Guilty souls from death to win!
Thou unchain'st the captive band ;
Sittest now at God's Right Hand.
To repair our ruined plight;
Filled with Thine all-hallowing Light.
Goal to which all hearts must tend :
Crown of life, when tears shall end.
JESU, Thee shall all adore,
With One SPIRIT evermore.
“Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of GOD, angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto Him." 80.0 Thou eternal King most high !
Who didst the world redeem ;
A dignity supreme;
Didst to Thy Throne ascend;
And glory without end.
To Thee submissive bow
