; Thus may we all thy words obey, CONFIRMATION. 134. SOLDIERS of Christ! arise, And put your armour on, S.M. Strong in the strength which God supplies, Through his eternal Son. Strong in the Lord of Hosts, And in his mighty power, Who in the strength of JESUS trusts Stand, then, in his great might, That having all things done, And all your conflicts past, Ye may o'ercome, through Christ alone, And stand complete at last. 135. WITNESS, ye men and angels, now To Him we make a solemn vow,- C.M. That, long as life itself shall last, We trust not in our native strength, That, with returning wants, the Lord Lord, guide our doubtful feet aright, And, while we turn our vows to prayers, Turn Thou our prayers to praise. BURIAL OF THE DEAD. 136. O SAVIOUR of the faithful dead! With whom thy servants dwell, C.M. Though cold and green the turf is spread No more we cling to mortal clay, When, soon or late, this feeble breath When, cloth'd in fleshly weeds again, Judge of the world! bethink Thee then, ALMIGHTY MAKER of my frame, Oh! be a nobler portion mine! 138. O GOD, thy grace and blessing give Regardful of our journey's end. Teach us to know that JESUS died L.M. And rose again, our souls to save; Then shall not death with terror come, The messenger of peace and rest. WHEN our heads are bow'd with woe, When we mourn the lost, the dear, Thou our throbbing flesh hast worn, Thou hast bow'd the dying head, When the heart is sad within Thou the shame, the grief hast known, MORNING. 140. AWAKE my soul, and with the sun L.M. Redeem thy mis-spent moments past, Let all thy converse be sincere, Wake, and lift up thyself, my heart, 141. WE wake, we wake, ye heavenly choir; May your devotion us inspire, That we, like you, our age may spend ; Like you, may on our God attend. Lord! we our vows to Thee renew; Scatter our sins as morning dew; L.M. Guard our first springs of thought and will, And with Thyself our spirits fill. Direct, control, suggest, this day, That all our powers, with all their might, In thy sole glory may unite. THROUGH all the dangers of the night, Preserved, O Lord, by Thee, Again we hail the cheerful light, Again we bow the knee. |
