Mr. Charles Scribner

Eighty-two years ago the first office of what is now Charles Scribner's Sons was opened in the chapel of the Old Brick Church at Nassau Street and Park Row, New York City.

Over 50 years ago Charles Scribner took over the conduct of the business founded by his father and was shortly after joined by his brother, Arthur H. Scribner. The business has grown to a point where "every important subject which the human mind has pondered or touched on" is represented in Scribner publications.

In the field of fiction alone one finds in the Scribner list such names as J. M. Barrie, John Galsworthy, Robert Louis Stevenson, Edith Wharton, Maurice Hewlett, Ernest Hemingway, James Boyd, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and many others, while Scribner's Magazine has always stood for the best in contemporary literature.

In addition to its great list of books for the general public Charles Scribner's Sons issue numerous text-books. The J. J. Little & Ives Company has been privileged to serve in the manufacture of many Scribner educational books.
