JESU, we look up to Thee,
Bleeding on the gallows-tree;
Mercy, Lord, we humbly crave,
Thou alone of all canst save.

Jesu, hear us when we call,
Rescue us from Satan's thrall;
Mercy, Lord, we humbly crave,
Thou alone of all canst save.

Stained with many sins are we,
From their bondage set us free;
Mercy, Lord, we humbly crave,
Thou alone of all canst save.

Son of Mary, Son of God,

Wield not now th' avenging rod ;
Love Thou art, and love we crave,
Love Thou art, and strong to save.

Jesu, risen up to heaven,
Spotless Lamb for sinners given,
Mercy we poor sinners crave,
Hear us, Lord, and hearing, save.

PSALM XCII.-PART 1.

Joy and blessing wait on praise:
O my God, with joyful tongue
To Thy Highest Name I raise
This my glad thanksgiving song.

Joy it is at dawning light

Still to tell Thy mercies new;

Joy to muse in silent night

How

my Guardian God is true.

Joy whene'er with solemn words
Tones of harps and psalteries meet;
Tones that wake the tenfold chords,
Tones from lutestrings low and sweet.

For Thy deeds of mercy done,
All my powers of song employ;
Deeds, whose wonders far outrun
Words of praise or thoughts of joy.

PSALM XXIV.-PART 2.

LIFT your heads, eternal gates!
He Who could the conquest win,
At your golden threshold waits :
Let the King of glory in.

Tell us, Who is glory's King?
We but wait to hear the word :-
He Whom we in triumph bring,
God of hosts, and mighty Lord.

Lift your heads, eternal gates !
He Who could the conquest win
At your golden threshold waits:
Let the King of glory in.

Honour, glory, love, and praise,

Be through never-ending days

To the Father and the Son,

And the Spirit, Three in One. Amen.

39

Lo! He comes with clouds descending, Christ the Lamb for sinners slain ! Thousand thousand saints attending Swell the triumph of His train. Hallelujah!

Christ returns to judge and reign!

Ev'ry eye shall then behold Him,
Robed in dreadful majesty:

They who set at nought and sold Him,
Pierced and nailed Him to the tree;
Deeply wailing,

Shall the true Messiah see.

Blest redemption, long expected!
See! His solemn pomp to share,
All His saints, by men rejected,
Rise to meet Him in the air!
Hallelujah!

See the Day of God appear!

Yea, Amen, let all adore Thee,
High on Thine eternal Throne.
Saviour, Thine be all the glory,
Make Thy righteous judgment known.
Hallelujah!

Take the kingdom for Thine own!

40

Lo! round the Throne, at God's Right Hand,
The saints, in countless myriads, stand:
Of every tongue redeemed to God,
Arrayed in garments washed in blood.

Through tribulation great they came;
They bore the cross, despised the shame;
From all their labours now they rest,
In God's eternal glory blest.

Hunger and thirst they feel no more;
Nor sin, nor pain, nor death deplore:
The tears are wiped from every eye,
And sorrow yields to endless joy.

They see their Saviour face to face,
And sing the triumphs of His grace;
Him day and night they ceaseless praise;
To Him their loud hosannas raise.
