IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD ONE THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED AND

FORTY-SEVEN.

AN ACT additional to an act to incorporate the Heron Lake Dam Company.

Be it enacted by the Senate aad House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows;

SECTION 1. The Lake Heron Dam Company shall 2 have the right to demand and receive the sum of 3 seventy cents for each and every thousand feet, board 4 measure, of all logs and lumber which may pass over 5 or through their said dam or dams into the Cham6 berlin Lake, so called, to be ascertained and fixed by 7 the scale usually denominated the Woods scale. And 8 said corporation shall have a lien on all logs and

9 lumber which shall pass over or through their said 10 dam or dams into said Chamberlin Lake, whether 11 the same remain in the possession of said corporation 12 or not, until the full amount of toll due on all the 13 logs of the owner of any particular mark shall be 14 fully paid; and, if not paid within twenty days after 15 said logs, or a greater portion of them, shall arrive 16 at any boom within twenty miles of Old Town, the 17 said corporation may sell at public auction, after 18 twenty days' notice in some public newspaper printed 19 in the city of Bangor, and posting up a like notice 20 in some public place in Old Town a like time, so 21 much of said logs or lumber as may be sufficient to 22 pay said toll and incidental charges: Provided, no 23 toll shall be demanded for timber which has been cut 24 and is lying in Heron Lake.

SEC. 2. Said corporation shall keep, in a book for 2 that purpose, a regular account of all disbursements, 3 expenditures, and receipts; and the books of said 4 corporation shall at all times be open to the inspec5 tion of the land agent, or any committee appointed 6 by the legislature, or any other person interested 7 therein; and, at the expiration of each year, the 8 treasurer of said corporation shall make an exhibit,

9 under oath, to the land agent, of the net profits 10 derived from all of said works; and the treasurer 11 of said corporation, in addition to the sum already 12 expended on said dams, and in the purchase and im13 provements of Chamberlin Dam, so called, shall also 14 file with the land agent the expense of making all 15 suitable repairs on said dams. And when the said 16 corporation shall have received from tolls the amount 17 of all sums expended in constructing and repairing 18 all of their said works, including the purchase of the 19 Chamberlin Dam, with twelve per cent. interest per 20 annum, with the repairs and reasonable charges for 21 taking care of and managing said dams, the legis22 lature may reduce the toll to a sum sufficient to keep 23 said works in repair.

SEC. 3. The purchase of Chamberlin Dam by 2 said company is hereby confirmed, and said company 3 are authorized to hold the same as their property

PROPOSED AMENDMENTS.

A.

Amend bill in section 1, line 3d, by striking out the word seventy," and inserting, in lieu thereof, the word "forty," so as to read "forty cents," &c.

B.

Amend, by striking out the second section of the bill.
