As a frontispiece to this book there is a portrait of the author when he took his famous voyage just after leaving college. But great as Dana was as a lawyer, orator and statesman, he lives chiefly in the memory of men as the narrator of a voyage round Cape Horn to San Francisco before the discovery of gold.
