The Psalm Book of Charles KnowlesPinnacle Press, 1962 - 42 páginas "A facsimile edition of one of the most extraordinary books in American book-making history. It is also an extraordinarily touching human story. Charles Knowles suffered throughout his short life from an incurable disease. He was nevertheless, unusually alert and creative. He went to the Putney School in Vermont, and there, when he was seventeen, his creativity found its full flower in the Psalm Book which stands as his monument. He selected eight of his favorite passages from the Psalms, set them by hand in type, cut wood engravings to illustrate each passage, selected different colors of paper and ink for each illustration, and printed ten signed and numbered copies on a hand press at the Vermont Printing Company. Less than a year later, in 1958, at the age of eighteen, he was dead."--Page 2 of cover |
