Excerpt from Maynooth College: Or the Law Affecting the Grant to Maynooth, With the Nature of the Instruction There Given, and the Parliamentary Debates Thereon

The subject is either utterly contemptible, or deserving of the most grave consideration; for while it is universally admitted that the hand of education moulds the future man, how important is it that they who are, as it were, the guardians who have the tuition of the infant mind be neath whose auspices each rising generation is to be moulded should themselves be imbued with those principles of sound morality, of pure and scrip tural religion, which are most conducive to the happiness of man and the prosperity of the empire without which education does but more rapidly mature, and more perfectly develop, and more powerfully urge to action, some of the worst pas sions and propensities of human nature.
