BURSARIES, SCHOLARSHIPS, AND

FELLOWSHIPS.

1.-Bursaries.

At the commencement of each Winter Session a varying number of Bursaries are awarded by competition. Some of these are open to Students entering on the First Winter Session of their Medical Studies and others to Students entering on their Second Winter Session. Women are eligible to compete for and hold only such of the bursaries as have been founded prior to August, 1864.

(A.) CONDITIONS OF BURSARIES OPEN TO COM

PETITION.

1. WILLIAM CATTO, BANKER'S BURSARY.

This Bursary may be held in the Faculty of Medicine. For conditions, see Bursaries in Arts.

2. THE EDINBURGH ABERDEENSHIRE CLUB EXHIBITION. Founded in 1883, by the Edinburgh Aberdeenshire Club for Students of Law or Medicine from any school in the County of Aberdeen who have passed through the Arts Classes in the University. The Exhibition to be awarded by Annual Competition, and to be held for the first year (1884-85) by a Student of Medicine, for the second year by a Student of Law, for the third and fourth years by Students of Medicine, and so on; the Students of Medicine to have two appointments for every one appointment of a Student of Law. The annual value of the Exhibition is £5 or thereby, payable at the end of each Winter Session. The next appointment of a student of Medicine will be made in 1919.

3. DR. ISAAC GILCHRIST.

Founded under the Trust Settlement of Dr. Alfred Gilchrist, M.A., 141 Blenheim Place, Aberdeen, dated 23 February, 1909, in memory of his brother, Dr. Isaac Gilchrist. One Competition Bursary for a Student in Medicine, male or female, tenable for the full Curriculum in Medicine and not to exceed £20 in annual value. Candidates-in the first place of the name of "Gilchrist,” and in the second place of the name of "Fraser" to be preferred ceteris paribus.

4. GILLANDers.

Founded in 1909 in terms of the will of Alexander Gillanders, retired Customhouse Officer, Harrogate. The free revenue (about £15) is awarded annually by the Senatus, on the recommendation of the Medical Faculty, to a Student in the fourth or fifth year of his or her Medical Curriculum.

5. THE GREIG (FYVIE) BURSARY.

Founded in 1882, by subscription, in memory of Alex. Fiddes Greig (Alumnus King's Coll., 1829-31), Surgeon in Fyvie. One Bursary of the annual value of £5 10s., or thereby, tenable for three years. Open for competition to Students commencing the second Winter Session of their Medical Studies, preference being given in cases of equality to natives of the parishes of Fyvie, Auchterless, Methlick, Tarves and Old Meldrum.

6. KNOX.

Founded in 1907, by William Knox, Grain Importer, Aberdeen, who bequeathed £1,500 for Bursaries in the Faculty of Medicine. There are three bursaries, each of the value of £16 or thereby, and tenable for three years. They are awarded to students commencing their third Winter Session on the record of the classes attended and Degree Examinations passed during the preceding portion of their medical course. One bursary will be awarded each year, and candidates are required within ten days after the commencement of the Winter Session, to lodge their names with the Secretary of the University, together with the record of their previous career in Medicine.

7. LIDDEL.

Founded in 1612 and 1613, by Duncan Liddel, M.D. (see the Liddel Prize, under "Arts "), and regulated by "The Aberdeen (Endowed Institutions) Provisional Order, 1881". The number of Bursaries is four, of the annual value of £20 each, tenable for four years. Restricted to Students entering on their first Winter Session who have passed all the subjects imperative for registration in Medicine.

8. MACKAY.

9. MARR.

Founded in 1882, by Mrs. Elizabeth Watts or Marr, of Cliff House, Banchory-Devenick and Aberdeen. Two Bursaries of the annual value of £30 or thereby each, tenable for three years. Open to competition by Students about to commence the second Winter Session of their medical studies. Candidates of the name of Marr, natives or sons of natives of Aberdeen, ceteris paribus, to be preferred.

10. MATHER.

Founded in 1807, by John Mather (see the Mather bursary in Arts), and regulated by "The Aberdeen (Endowed Institutions) Provisional Order, 1881". The number of Bursaries is four, of the annual value of £20 each, tenable for four years. Restricted to Students entering on their first Winter Session, who have passed all the subjects imperative for registration in Medicine.

11. MILNE (WILLIAM).

Founded in 1882, by William Milne, M.A., Edinburgh. One Bursary of the annual value of £18 or thereby, tenable for three years. Open for competition to Students about to commence the second Winter Session of their Medical Studies.
