Hosea Ballou (1771 - 1852), was an American Universalist clergyman, founder and editor of The Universalist Magazine, and often called the 'father of American Universalism.' This work contains the correspondence between Ballou and Abner Kneeland (1774 - 1844), a pioneer evangelist and minister. In a religious crisis Kneeland appealed to Ballou. Kneeland was reassured by Ballou's arguments and returned to the ministry.
