Excerpt from The Larger Life: Studies in Hinton's Ethics

I'r frequently happens that an original thinker is not the best expounder of his own ideas. Occupied solely with the search after truth, and perhaps exhausted with the shock from the impact of fresh light, he has neither the leisure nor the power to unfold and set in order the knowledge gained, nor so to correlate it with the work of previous thinkers that it may be seen' to be built up on a solid basis. He seems to say to the dwellers on the plain, If your feet stood where mine stand, you would see what I see; but his words carry no conviction: he cannot hew out steps in the mountain to aid the ascent of feebler minds.
