SENATE JOURNAL

MONDAY, JANUARY TWELVE

The second Monday of January being the day prescribed by the Constitution of Arizona for the biennial meeting of the Legislature, the regular session of the Seventh Legislature commenced this day.

The Senate assembled in its chamber at the Capitol, at 12 o'clock, noon.

Mr. St. Charles, the Senator-elect from Mohave County, being in point of years the oldest Senator-elect, called the Senate to order. Rev. George Logie, of Phoenix, offered prayer.

The roll was called, and the following Senators-elect answered to their names:

The President pro tempore designated Mr. Davis, Mr. Colter and Mr. Hardy as a Committee on Credentials, and the committee, after deliberating, reported that the following were entitled to seats in the Senate:

The President pro tempore designated Mr. Sims, Mr. Elliott and

Mr. Cox to invite Chief Justice A. G. McAllister to administer the oath of office to the Senators-elect, and to escort the Chief Justice to the Senate Chamber.

Chief Justice McAllister administered the oath of office to the Senator-elect, and was accorded a rising vote of thanks.

ELECTION OF PRESIDENT

Mr. Elliott placed in nomination for the office of President of the Senate, Mr. Winsor, the Senator from Yuma. Mr. Favour seconded the nomination.

Mr. Davis moved that nominations be closed, and Mr. Winsor be declared the unanimous choice of the Senate. The motion was agreed to.

The President was escorted to the chair by Mr. Davis and Mr. Elliott. He expressed briefly his appreciation of the honor conferred upon him.

ELECTION OF OTHER OFFICERS

Mr. Sims placed in nomination for the office of Secretary of the Senate, Mr. W. J. Graham, of Phoenix.

Mr. Lines moved that nominations be closed, and Mr. Graham be declared the unanimous choice of the Senate. The motion was agreed to.

Mr. Kinney placed in nomination for the office of Sergeant-atArms, Mr. Sam F. Lanford, of Globe.

Mr. Kinney moved that nominations be closed, and Mr. Lanford be declared the unanimous choice of the Senate. The motion was agreed to.

Mr. Davis placed in nomination for the office of Door-keeper, Mr. M. V. Decker, of Phoenix.

Mr. Sims moved that nominations be closed, and Mr. Decker be declared the unanimous choice of the Senate. The motion was agreed to.

Mr. Hardy placed in nomination for the office of Chaplain, Rev. Victor A. Rule, Presbyterian minister of Phoenix.

Mr. Lines moved that nominations be closed, and Rev. Victor A. Rule be declared the unanimous choice of the Senate. The motion was agreed to.

NOTIFICATION OF THE HOUSE

The President designated Mr. Cox, Mr. Colter and Mr. Lines a committee to notify the House of Representatives that the Senate was organized and ready for the transaction of business.

Mr. Jones, Mr. Ludden and Mr. Rhodes, members of the House of Representatives, conveyed to the Senate the information that the House was duly organized and ready for the transaction of business.

NOTIFICATION OF THE GOVERNOR

The President designated Mr. Elliott and Mr. Kilcrease a committee to act with a like committee from the House, to notify the Governor that the Legislature was organized and ready to receive any communications he might wish to make.

Mr. Elliott and Mr. Kilcrease reported to the Senate that the
