HYMN LXXX.

"Ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father."-ROMANS VIII. 15.

Almighty God, to Thee we raise
An humble song of prayer and praise ;
Such offerings as we can make,
Do Thou accept for Jesus' sake.

We thank Thee that 'tis ours to claim
The right to bear the Saviour's name;
We pray Thee that we ne'er may prove
Unworthy of that Saviour's love.

We thank Thee that in early youth
We see the light of Gospel truth;
Oh! may it aye our steps attend-
In life a guide, in death a friend.

We thank Thee that on earth we dare
Thus humbly to uplift our prayer;
Oh! may we in the blest abode
Sing endless praises to our God!

LXXXI.

"Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling."— PHIL. II. 12.

Heirs of immortal life,

While yet we sojourn here,
Oh! let us our salvation work
With trembling and with fear.

God will support our hearts
With might before unknown;
The work to be perform'd is ours,
The strength is His alone.

'Tis He that works to will,

'Tis He that works to do;

His is the power by which we act ;—
Be His the glory too!

HYMN LXXXII.

"It is God that worketh in you, to will and to do of His good pleasure." "-PHIL. II. 13.

Father, Whose love and truth fulfil
Thy covenant in Abraham's seed,
Confirm in us the sacred seal

And make us sons of God indeed.

Jesus! through Thine appointed rite
The promised grace we humbly claim,
Children were lovely in Thy sight,
And, Lord, Thy love is still the same.

Eternal Spirit! Holy Dove!

Who once on God's beloved Son Wast seen descending from above,

Our new and heavenly birthright own.

Thrice Holy Lord, Whose name we bear,
Confirm our faith, renew our love;
And let Thy grace our hearts prepare
For glory in the world above.

HYMN LXXXIII.

"The spirit of wisdom and understanding; the spirit of council and ghostly strength; the spirit of knowledge and true godliness; the spirit of holy fear."-CONFIRMATION SERVICE.

Draw, Holy Ghost, Thy sevenfold veil
Between us and the fires of youth,
Breathe, Holy Ghost, Thy fresh'ning gale
Our fever'd brow in age to soothe.

And oft as sin and sorrow tire,

The hallow'd hour do Thou renew,
When, beckon'd up the solemn choir

By pastoral hands, towards Thee we drew.

When trembling at the sacred rail,

We hid our eyes, and held our breath,
Felt Thee how strong, our hearts how frail,
And long'd to own Thee to the death.

For ever on our souls be traced
The blessing of that gentle hand,
A sheltering rock in memory's waste—
A shadow in the weary land!

HYMN LXXXIV.

"Keep thine heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life."-PROV. IV. 23.

Think upon Eve and Adam's sin,
How woe and death at once came in,
And learn how wicked acts begin.

When conscience tells you not to do
The deed that you may have in view,
That is the voice of God in you.

When playmates urge, or when you long
To leave the right way for the wrong,
That is to you the serpent's tongue.

Or if a thing forbidden be,
Yet pleasant, good, and fair to see,
That is to you the guarded tree.

So if there come a thought some day,
Parents or friends to disobey,
And from their wishes turn away;

Or should some evil passion rise
And make you wish what God denies;
O then, remembering Eve, be wise!

HYMN LXXXV.

"This do in remembrance of me."-ST. LUKE XXII. 9.

According to Thy gracious word,
In meek humility,

This will I do, my dying Lord,
I will remember Thee.

Thy body, broken for my sin,
My bread from heaven shall be;
The sacramental cup I'll take,
And thus remember Thee.

When to the Cross I turn mine eyes
And muse on Calvary,

O Lamb of God, my sacrifice,

I will remember Thee.

And when these faltering lips grow dumb,
And mind and memory flee,

When Thou shalt to Thy kingdom come,-
Then, Lord, remember me.

HYMN LXXXVI.

"The bread of God is He which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world."-ST. JOHN VI. 33.

Bread of our Life! in mercy broken!
Wine of the soul in mercy shed!
By Whom the words of life were spoken,
And in Whose death our sins are dead;
