Exalt the sceptre of Thy Son,

To Him be all Thy Kingdoms given,
And let Thy will on earth be done,
As holy angels serve in Heaven.

HYMN LIII.

"Lift up your hands in the Sanctuary, and praise the Lord."— PSALM CXXXIV. 3.

Stand up and bless the Lord,
Ye children of His choice;

your God

Stand up and bless the Lord
With heart, and soul, and voice.

O for the living flame,

From his own altar brought,

To touch our lips and fire our minds,
And wing to Heaven each thought!

God is our strength and song;
His love in Christ is ours;
Then be that saving love proclaim'd
With all our ransomed powers.

Stand up and bless the Lord,

The Lord your God adore;
Arise and bless His glorious name,
Henceforth for evermore.

HYMN LIV.

"Save me, O God, and I shall be saved."-JER. XVII. 14.

God of my life! Whose gracious power
Thro' varied deaths my soul hath led;
Oft turned aside the fatal hour,

Or lifted up my sinking head;
In all my ways Thy hand I own,
Thy ruling providence I see;
Assist me still my course to run,
And still direct my paths to Thee.

Oft, from the margin of the grave,
Thou, Lord, hast lifted up my head;
Sudden I found Thee near to save!
Pale sickness owned Thy touch and fled.
Whither, Oh! whither should I fly,
But to my loving Saviour's breast?
Secure within Thine arms to lie,

And safe beneath Thy wings to rest.

HYMN LV.

"O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is gracious: and His mercy endureth for ever."-PSALM CVI. 1.

O, give thanks to him that made
Morning light and evening shade;
Source and giver of all good,
Nightly sleep and daily food;
Quickener of our wearied powers,
Guard of our unconscious hours.

Oh! give thanks with heart and lip,
For we are His workmanship:
And all creatures are His care;
Not a bird that cleaves the air
Falls unnoticed; but who can
Speak the Father's love to man?

O, give thanks to Him who came
In a mortal, suffering frame-
Temple of the Deity-

Came for rebel man to die;
In the path Himself hath trod,
Leading back His saints to God.

HYMN LVI.

"The eternal God is Thy refuge."-DEUT. XXXIII. 27.

Father of all our mercies, Thou

In whom we move and live!

Hear us from Heaven, Thy dwelling-place, And while thou hears't, forgive.

When strong temptations gather round,
And threaten or allure,

By storm or calm, may we be found
In Thee,-a refuge sure.

When age advances, may we grow
In faith, and hope, and love,

And walk in holiness below,

To holiness above.

When flames the elements destroy,
And worlds in judgment stand,
May we lift up our heads with joy,
And meet at Thy right hand!

HYMN LVII.

"The Lord is full of compassion and mercy."-PSALM CIII. 8.

Father of mercies! let our ways
With Thee acceptance find;
Thy loving kindness we confess,
To us and all mankind.

Thanks for creation are Thy due,
For life preserved by Thee;
And all the blessings life affords,
So great and yet so free.

Thanks for redemption above all
To us in Jesus given;

Thanks for the means of grace on earth,
And for the hope of heaven.

O let a sense of this Thy grace
Our best affections move;

That while our lips Thy praise proclaim,
Our hearts may feel Thy love!

HYMN LVIII.

"And God said, let there be light; and there was light."GEN. I. 3.

Thou, Whose Almighty Word,
Chaos and darkness heard,
And took their flight,

Hear us, we humbly pray;
And where the Gospel-day
Sheds not its glorious ray,
“Let there be light!”

Thou, Who didst come to bring,
On Thy redeeming wing,
Healing and light;

Health to the sick in mind,
Sight to the inly blind,
Oh, now to all mankind
"Let there be light!"

Spirit of truth and love,
Life-giving, holy Dove,

Speed forth Thy flight!
Move on the water's face,
Bearing the lamp of grace,
And in earth's darkest place
"Let there be light!"

Blessed and Holy Three,
One God in Trinity,

Wisdom, Love, Might!
Boundless as ocean's tide,

Rolling in fullest pride,

Through the world far and wide,

“Let there be light!”
